Ideal Space for Recording in Manhattan: Abacus Entertainment Delivers Excellence
January 27, 2025
For over two decades, Bryant Falk and Abacus Entertainment have played a significant role in the world of voiceover, audio production, and video editing with a personalized, boutique approach. Based in Manhattan’s NoMad neighborhood, Abacus’ unique space for recording in Manhattan offers more than recording services—it’s a one-stop shop for production, coaching, and talent development. Falk’s philosophy of blending engineering expertise with a deep understanding of talent makes Abacus unique.

A History of Creativity and Adaptation
Bryant Falk founded Abacus Entertainment with Bruce Kronenberg in 2001, following years of experience in production. With a background in 24-track studios and multi-track machines, Falk has witnessed the evolution of the industry firsthand. When larger studios began to shrink, he embraced smaller, more efficient spaces and tailored his services to meet the needs of modern clients, allowing Abacus to deliver high quality recording at economies of scale.
“I love that you never know what kind of job you’ll be doing,” Falk says. From commercials and corporate presentations to multilingual voiceovers and award show announcements, the variety of projects at Abacus is remarkable. Falk has worked with clients ranging from nonprofits like the Lortel Theatre to international corporations such as Kiehl’s skincare.
Projects That Span the Globe
Abacus Entertainment has a portfolio that spans a wide range of industries. Falk has worked with corporate clients, nonprofits, and even international projects like providing an English voiceover for a fire system recording in France. Whether it’s pre-recording award show announcements, coaching voiceover talent, or producing multilingual content, Falk’s expertise ensures every project is executed with precision and a distinct voice. Literally.
A Unique Approach to Production and Training
Abacus Entertainment is notable because of its comprehensive approach to production and talent development. Falk, along with his partner Bruce Kronenberg and his team offer more than engineering—they coach talent, assist directors to get the best from their talent, and ensure every project captures the intended vision.
With a team of experienced coaches, including Bruce Kronenberg (who also teaches at Stella Adler), Emma Romasco (a highly sought-after anime vocal talent), and Tom Aglio (a full-time professional voice actor), Abacus ensures students receive personalized guidance and practical business advice.

For voiceover artists, Falk emphasizes the importance of keeping performances conversational and engaging. “Having a great voice isn’t enough anymore,” he explains. Abacus helps clients deliver compelling personalities that stand out in the competitive world of audio and video production.
Demo preparation is another cornerstone of Abacus’s services. Falk insists, “The talent is not the producer.” Abacus provides professional guidance and collaborates with talent to make sure they are getting the most effective demos for what they want to achieve.
“I’ve worked in ad agencies for many years,” Bryant says. “Writing copy to fit talent is what I consider one of my ‘Savant’ abilities.” Depending on what a student wishes to pursue, Commercial, Animation, Video Games, or Corporate, to name a few areas of voiceover, the Abacus team builds an effective demo, offers coaching in that field, and includes a business session for talent to be able to move onto the next step of their career.
Abacus also provides Media Training for anyone who is looking to hone their recording and on-camera chops, which is becoming more important in our social media-dominated times.
Supporting Talent Through Membership and Open Mic Night
Abacus Entertainment offers a Membership Program designed to support talent as they navigate the challenges of the industry. Members can access services like audition reviews and personalized feedback, which are especially valuable in an era of remote auditions.
A highlight of the program is the monthly Open Mic Night, a virtual gathering where members can practice, receive feedback, and hone their craft. “Getting together to work on our craft is a huge part of what we do,” Falk says. These sessions provide a collaborative and supportive environment for talent to grow and improve.
Why the St. James Building Is the Ideal Space for Recording in Manhattan
When choosing a location for Abacus Entertainment, Falk prioritized a space that combined practicality with high-quality sound capabilities. “I knew there were several recording studios in the St. James and Townsend buildings, including Lotas Productions and SoundVine Studios. So, I reached out to explore some possible options.”
The St. James building at 1133 Broadway met these needs perfectly. The recording studio is located on an interior-facing side of the building, ensuring minimal noise interference from the city streets. The space includes a professional-grade vocal booth that has been known for its pristine audio quality from years prior.
Falk also appreciates the building’s quiet atmosphere, especially in the evenings when many of his sessions take place. The St. James, with its historic stairwell and timeless architecture, adds to the creative vibe of working there. “The stairwell is incredible, with its original handrails. “I feel like I’m time traveling when I take the stairs.”

Benefits of a Recording Studio in NoMad
Falk was very familiar with NoMad and looking for a ‘change of venue’ from his years recording in the Theater District at The Film Center Building on the Upper West Side.
Regarding NoMad, Falk points out, “Madison Square Park is so convenient for a brisk walk. For food there’s Eataly, or for something classic Eisenberg’s Sandwich shop just down the street. And the NoMad Piazza – that part of Broadway that’s closed to cars – is great when everybody is out there.” He explains further, “When you’ve been sealed up tight in a soundproof recording studio, it’s important to have easy access to outdoor space that can get you re-energized.”
Looking Ahead
Abacus Entertainment continues to expand its offerings, venturing further into animation voiceover work for corporate and broadcast clients. Falk is also collaborating with institutions like the New York Institute of Technology to develop training programs.
For Falk, his career is all about persistence and passion. “You never know how it’s gonna work, but if you keep going, something happens—something will click,” he says.
With its ideal space for recording in Manhattan, Abacus is perfectly positioned to continue delivering top-notch results for years to come.
